March 15, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Sparks History Map

On March 15, 1905 then Governor John Sparks signed into a law a bill that created the City of Sparks. In honor of the City of Sparks’ 119th Birthday, the Sparks Heritage Museum will be holding a special celebration on Friday March 15th at 5:30 PM inside the museum. Join Mayor Ed Lawson and former Mayor Jim Spoo and members of the museum to cut a birthday cake and celebrate the museum’s Mayor’s Exhibit and the launch of the Sparks History Map project.

Mayor’s Exhibit

Inside the museum’s changing gallery, the Sparks Heritage Museum has created a special Mayors Exhibit that celebrates each mayor throughout Sparks’ history. This exhibit features memorabilia and photos of each mayor and tells the history of Sparks. Items used in this exhibit are either a part of the museum’s collection or have been donated by former Mayors and their families. The Mayor’s Exhibit will remain on display inside the museum for the next few months. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Sparks History Map Launched

Also, in celebration of the city’s 119th birthday, the Museum is pleased to launch the Sparks History Map project. The purpose of the Sparks History Map project is to document the buildings and places that have made Sparks the great community it is today. The map includes over 100 entries with photos and stories that tell the history of prominent locations throughout the city. This map is intended to be a living archive that tells the story of Sparks for future generations. As part of the project, the museum is also encouraging members of the community to “Share Your Sparks” and send in their own entries to the map. All entries in the Sparks History Map will become part of the museum’s archives and help preserve the history of the Sparks.
