Sister Cities
Sparks has had two sister cities over the years; starting with Longford, Ireland in 1976 and Garabaldi, Oregon in 1985. What is a sister city? A sister city serves in partnership with another city, domestically or internationally, wherein the highest elected officials agree to the relationship and is a broad-based long-term partnership rooted in municipal, business, educational, and cultural exchanges with their sister city. Established in 1985, the Nevada Board on Geographic Names manages toponyms (place names) within Nevada, and serves as an advisory committee to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.
