This Thursday the Museum features artist Tia Flores, showcasing and discussing her artistic works. A fourth generation Nevadan, Tia Flores is known for her culturally themed pyrographic calabaza sculptures that depict the vast beauty of the Nevada desert and its natural inhabitants. As a nationally recognized artist, her artwork has been featured on HGTV’s That’s Cleaver!, Voices of America, PBS ArtEffects, and published in a variety of books and magazines. Tia is one of a handful of female artists featured in the book, Women Artists of the Great Basin by Mary Lee Fulkerson. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Tia this evening at the Sparks Heritage Museum!
Also stop by and visit our featured Community Partner this month, Sierra Arts Foundation. Sierra Arts Foundation (SAF) was founded in December 1971, and has taken a leadership role in the region for more than 40 years in educating, nurturing and supporting the arts through presenting cultural events, promoting best practices in arts education, advocating for art in public places, and developing innovative arts programs as needs arise in our community. The organization is currently housed in the Riverside Artist Lofts’ building, which is co-owned by SAF and Artspace Projects. The Artist Lofts were designed to provide affordable housing for lower-income, developing artists.
Sierra Arts Foundation’s programs and services are initiated to meet the needs of the community through careful assessment of where gaps in arts and culture appear. Sierra Arts examines what is currently offered by the other local arts organizations, and evaluates what arts programs & services are needed to enhance the cultural life of the community.
Sierra Arts Foundation has Don’t miss the chance to visit these amazing artists, and when you are done – stop by the historic train and Glendale schoolhouse for a free tour this evening! And while you are here, consider joining as a member of the Museum, which features new and growing benefits! Visit the membership page on this website for more information.
