Sparks has had two sister cities over the years; starting with Longford, Ireland in 1976 and Garabaldi, Oregon in 1985. What is a sister city? A sister city serves in partnership with another city, domestically or internationally, wherein the highest elected officials agree to the relationship and is a broad-based long-term partnership rooted in municipal, business, educational, and cultural exchanges with their sister city. The relationship can foster friendship and understanding between different cultures as well as encourage trade and tourism. This exhibit will feature history and other geographical interests connected to Sparks’ sister cities: past, present and future.
